Dear Global Business Enthusiast,

Michael Michelini (@michelini) here. You’re getting this email because you requested my periodic thoughts on international business from Hong Kong.

[Edit: Actually, it’s possible that you’ve never gotten an email from me. Somebody might have just given you the link to this page, which is an online archive of an email that I sent to folks who had asked for it. This week: Social Networks are Social Commerce for e-Commerce Gateways, Bitcoin May Come to eBay as Platform Drops PayPal as Main Payment Option and Wechat vs Weixian : Some Keys to Understand E-commerce in China

Made it to US of A. Those who listened to this week’s podcast already may have learned that my wife was denied entry to this country (10 year visas to USA now need to be re-activated every 2 years, plus the passport needs more than 6 months left on it – she didn’t have either of those criteria). Made the tough choice of leaving her in Hong Kong International Airport and taking the kids and her sister in law on the plane. So I have my hands full to say the least!

Business News From Around Asia

Social Networks are Social Commerce for e-Commerce Gateways

Bitcoin May Come to eBay as Platform Drops PayPal as Main Payment Option (broken link http://www.altcointoday.com/bitcoin-may-come-ebay-platform-drops-paypal-main-payment-option/)
For as long as people can remember, there has been a tight relationship between eBay and PayPal. In virtually every case, PayPal is a required option for anyone looking to sell items on the global auction site. That situation will come to change in the near future, as eBay has announced its plan to ditch PayPal as its main payment option. It is a rather surprising turn of events, albeit one that could be quite positive for both companies.

Wechat vs Weixian : Some Keys to Understand E-commerce in China
In China, there are different types of platforms that will match with your needs. Most of foreign companies trying to expand their e-commerce in China failed because they knock on the wrong door. Many confusions are made and it’s these mistakes that lead to your loss. We will help you clarify some points, such as the difference between Wechat and Weidian, because yes, they are not the same platforms.
